About The Artist
Born in Arcadia California, Gaylor enlisted in the United States Coast Guard after graduating from Arcadia High School and served as a member of the USCG Honor Guard marching in the 1976 Bicentennial Parade Torrance California, Gaylor then graduated from the renowned USCG Cape Disappointment SAR school, and later joined the 13th District USCG SAR Team Station Yaquina Bay Newport Oregon as a Seaman/EMT. Following his USCG service, he graduated from the Rio Hondo College 11th Fire Academy in Santa Fe Springs, California, and worked as a full-time Firefighter/EMT with the City of Monrovia and then City of San Marino. After an injury in the line of duty that led to his retirement from the fire service, Gaylor became a restaurateur, owning and operating several establishments, while also forging a successful career in real estate as a commercial broker.
As an artist, Gaylor boasts a distinctive style characterized by bold, thickly textured oils, deep colors, and vibrant splashes of light. He finds great inspiration in Vincent’s work, which he describes as pure enlightenment, and humorously likens his style to a blend of impressionists Camille Pissarro and Paul Cezanne, coining it “Pizzanne!”
The name Gaylor, meaning dandy and spirited, aptly describes both the artist and his creations. An avid naturalist, Gaylor adores silence, trees and trails, the tatter of rain. He believes his art provides an elegant Zen to any environment.
